Parts of this area offering views of the water are wheelchair accessible. A small quiet beachfront overlooking Long Island Sound with picnic tables and grills. From the East: Take I-95 South to exit 18 to Sherwood Island State Park and continue 0.16 miles. Take the ramp to US-1/Westport and continue 0.09 miles. Stay on Sherwood Island Connector/Route 476 North 0.08 miles. Turn right onto Nyala Farms Road and continue 0.20 miles. Turn right onto Greens Farms Road and continue 0.61 miles. Greens Farms Road becomes Beachside Avenue and continue 0.21 miles. From the West: Take I-95 North to exit 18 to Sherwood Island State Park and continue 0.22 miles. Turn left onto Sherwood Island Connector/Route 476 North and continue 0.25 miles. Turn right onto Nyala Farms Road and continue 0.20 miles. Turn right onto Greens Farms Road and continue 0.61 miles. Greens Farms Road becomes Beachside Avenue and continue 0.21 miles.

Canal Road Water Access Area

Visitors to the Canal Road Water Access Area may fish, shellfish (restrictions may apply, see shellfishing hyperlink below) and bird watch at this small Town parklet. To help you reach Canal Road Water Access Area, some routes leading to this site are posted with the brown and white Long Island Sound Access sign.From the East: Take I-95 South. Take the Route 33 exit 17 to Route 136/Westport/Saugatuck and continue 0.21 miles. Turn right onto Saugatuck Avenue/Route 33. Continue to follow Saugatuck Avenue and continue 1.15 miles. Turn left onto Duck Pond Road and continue 0.34 miles. Turn left onto Harbor Road and continue 0.02 miles. Turn left onto Harbor Road and continue 0.68 miles. Turn right onto Canal Road and follow it to the end (where it meets Cockenoe Drive). From the West: Take I-95 North. Take the Route 136 exit 17 to Route 33/Westport/Saugatuck and continue 0.27 miles. Turn slight left onto Saugatuck Avenue/Route 136. Continue to follow Saugatuck Avenue for 0.41 miles. Saugatuck Avenue becomes Route 33 and continue 1.62 miles. Turn right onto Route 57/Canal Street/Kings Highway North. Continue to follow Route 57/Canal Street to the end (where it meets Cockenoe Drive).

Cockenoe Island

203-341-5090. Accessible by boat only. Cockenoe Island is off Seymour Point in Westport. There is a boat launch ramp at Compo Beach and Marina and Saugatuck River State Boat Launch in Westport. Bird/wildlife observation, fishing, shellfishing, camping in designated areas by town permit only, historic-cultural interests, hiking trails, crabbing. Admission/parking fee.  Directions to Saugatuck River State Boat Launch: From the East: Take I-95 South. Take exit 18 to Sherwood Island State Park and continue 0.16 miles. Take the ramp to US-1/Westport and continue 0.09 miles. Continue onto Sherwood IslandConnector/Route 476 North 0.19 miles. Turn left onto Greens Farms Road which becomes Bridge Street/Route 136. Turn/south onto Underhill Parkway to boat launch. Contact City of Westport for for fee schedule and resident and non resident day passes.

Compo Beach

Saltwater beach, swimming, marina, food concession, bathhouses, picnic area & grills, boardwalk and pavilion, playscape, softball field, multi-purpose field, (2) sand volleyball courts, (2) basketball courts, skate park and open skate area. Compo Beach has a long history too, having been the landing point for the British ships during the Revolutionary War. Main Park - 4 a.m. to midnight Compo Beach Playground - Sunrise to Sunset. Compo Beach and Marina

Use of the marina and boat launch area requires a permit. There is a daily fee for non-residents to access the park although non-residents may also purchase full-season parking emblems, based on availability,which can be purchased in advance. Turn left onto Compo Road South and continue 0.88 miles. Turn slight right onto Compo Beach Road. From the West: Take I-95 North. Take the Route 136 exit 17 to Route 33/Westport/Saugatuck and continue 0.27 miles. Turn slight left onto Saugatuck Avenue/Route 136. Continue to follow Route 136 for 0.37 miles. Turn right onto Bridge Street/Route 136 and continue 0.50 miles. Turn right onto Compo Road South for 0.88 miles. Turn slight right onto Compo Beach Road.

Compo Colonial Cemetery

Compo Colonial Cemetery fronts a tidal river and a bench is provided for visitors. Trails and walkways suit the purpose for bird and wildlife observation. Fishing is also permitted at this site.
